Games like Habbo Hotel in 2026: Habbo Origins, Hotel Hideaway, Highrise, Pony Town and more places with rooms, avatars and chat, including picks just for adults.
By Mario Jankovic 7 min read The closest games to Habbo Hotel in 2026 are Habbo itself, Habbo Hotel: Origins (Habbo as it was in 2005, for adults), Hotel Hideaway (a 3D hotel from the people who made Habbo), Highrise and IMVU for avatar chat rooms, and Pony Town for the pixel-art, chat-bubble feeling. If what you miss is a room of your own that friends drop into, cozier picks like Glint and Animal Crossing fit too. Here are 12, with what each one is best for.
Full disclosure: I make Glint, one of the picks below. Glint grew out of the same thing people loved about Habbo, a room you make yours and friends you meet in it, so I’ll be clear about where it fits and where the others are better.
Habbo was never really about the game. It was a place. You had your own room, you decorated it with furniture you’d collected, and you went to other people’s rooms to talk in little chat bubbles over everyone’s heads. Three things made it work:
The games below each get some of that right. Very few get all three.

Yes. Sulake launched Habbo in 2000, and it’s now owned by Azerion, which bought Sulake outright in 2021. The main hotel still runs in browsers and on phones. In June 2024 Sulake also launched Habbo Hotel: Origins, a rebuild of the hotel as it was in 2005, for players 18 and over, and it came to Steam in October 2025. So if what you miss is Habbo itself, the first stop is still Habbo.
Origins is the closest thing to going back in time: the 2005 hotel, its furniture and its rooms, for adults only. It’s free to play on Windows and Mac, with paid extras. It’s the pick for nostalgia. It’s much quieter than the hotel in its heyday, and recent Steam reviews are mostly negative, so go in expecting a small, devoted crowd.
The original hotel never closed. It’s on browsers, iOS and Android, free with paid credits and a Habbo Club membership. It has moved on from the 2005 version, so it feels familiar but not identical.
Hotel Hideaway is the hotel Habbo’s makers built next: 3D avatars and rooms to decorate. It runs on iOS and Android and came to Steam in 2025, where it’s rated 18+. Pocket Worlds, the company behind Highrise, bought it in September 2026. If you liked Habbo’s social side and don’t mind 3D, this is the most direct successor.
Highrise is a busy avatar world with rooms you decorate and voice chat. It’s on phones, PC and the web, and it’s updated every week. It leans toward fashion and meeting new people more than hanging out with your own friends.
IMVU is the long-running 3D chat room world: dress your avatar, decorate rooms, and chat in them. It’s free with optional VIP memberships, and there’s a separate adults-only area. Like Highrise, it’s strongest for meeting new people.
Pony Town is the one that feels most like old Habbo in its bones: pixel-art characters, chat bubbles over everyone’s heads, houses and lots of people just hanging out. It’s free in the browser and on Android, fan-made and running since 2016.
Woozworld is a cartoon avatar world with rooms, events and a busy social side. It’s free with paid extras, and it changed to 16 and over in 2025.
Avakin Life is a 3D life sim on phones (and Steam since May 2026) where you decorate apartments, dress up and visit other players. It’s more about looks and fashion than rooms full of friends.
Glint is for people who mostly miss the room part: a place of your own that you build and decorate, where your friends come and hang out. You build a room tile by tile, decorate it with stickers from an album (sofas, lamps, plants, sleeping cats, whole room styles), and talk over voice, video and chat, with messages popping up as bubbles over your heads like in Habbo. You can walk your avatar around with W A S D, watch videos in sync and leave notes on the wall.
The difference from Habbo is that Glint isn’t a big public hotel full of strangers. Rooms are for you and the people you invite. It’s free, runs in a browser tab, and you can try a room without making an account.

Second Life is the grown-up, everything-goes version: a huge 3D world built by its players, with homes, clubs and communities. It’s free to start, with a paid Premium membership, and it takes more time to learn than anything else here.
Palia is a cozy online world on PC and consoles where you farm, decorate a house and run into other players. It’s free to play. It scratches the “my own place in a shared world” itch, with more to do and less chatting.
If you have a Nintendo Switch, Animal Crossing is the coziest way to decorate a place and have friends visit. It’s a paid game with no open public world, so it’s for your own friends only, much like Glint.
Yes. Habbo Hotel: Origins is for players 18 and over, and Hotel Hideaway is rated 18+ on Steam. Woozworld is 16 and over. If you’d rather hang out with friends you already know than meet strangers, Glint and Animal Crossing work well for adults too.
The big hotels are made for meeting new people. If you want a place for your existing friends, pick something where the room is yours and only the people you invite come in: Glint in the browser, or Animal Crossing on the Switch. Send a link, decorate together, and the room is still there next time.
Is Habbo Hotel still online in 2026? Yes. Habbo runs in browsers and on iOS and Android, and Habbo Hotel: Origins, the 2005 version for adults, is on Windows and Mac.
What is the closest game to old Habbo? Habbo Hotel: Origins, which rebuilds the 2005 hotel. Hotel Hideaway, made by the same company, is the closest new game.
Are there free games like Habbo in the browser? Yes. Habbo itself, Pony Town, Woozworld and Glint all run in a browser for free.
What happened to Rec Room? Rec Room shut down in June 2026, so it’s no longer an option for hanging out.
Is there something like Habbo but just for friends? Glint gives you a room you build and decorate, where only the people you invite come in. Animal Crossing works the same way on the Switch.
