Glint v0.2.0 - Major Update

We’re excited to announce Glint v0.2.0, our first major update since launch. This release adds frequently requested customization options, a full document editor, enhanced stage collaboration, and workflow improvements based on your feedback.

🎉 New Features

Custom Backgrounds and Avatars

Personalize your workspace and appearance with custom backgrounds and avatars.

Backgrounds:

  • Choose from our curated library of images and GIFs
  • Upload your own images or GIFs
  • Apply custom backgrounds to any room

Avatars:

  • Continue using our avatar customization system
  • Upload your own profile picture or animated GIF
  • Use GIFs for animated avatars

Documents

Alongside sticky notes, you can now create Documents for more structured writing.

  • Slash commands - Type / to add headings, lists, code blocks, or task lists
  • @mentions - Tag teammates in documents to notify them
  • Property system - Add assignees, due dates, or custom fields to track document metadata
  • Block reordering - Drag and drop paragraphs to reorganize content
  • Task lists - Add checkboxes for actionable items
  • Placed on canvas - Documents live alongside other elements in your workspace

Use sticky notes for quick thoughts, or Documents when you need structured content with organization.

Enhanced Stage System

Stages now offer complete breakout room functionality with familiar video conferencing features:

  • Screen sharing, audio and video chat in a single place
  • Two collaboration modes:
    • Center Stage Mode - Moderator controls who appears on stage
    • Voice-Activated Mode - Stage automatically highlights active speakers

Private Stages

Create private collaboration spaces within your rooms:

  • Audio isolation - Only stage participants can hear each other
  • Video isolation - Camera feeds visible only to participants
  • Visual indicator - Non-participants see a “Private Party” overlay
  • Use cases - Breakout discussions, one-on-ones, or focused team sessions

🔧 Workflow Improvements

Simplified Element Editing

Design mode has been removed. Everyone can now edit elements at any time without toggling modes.

  • Lock individual elements - Protect important items from accidental edits
  • Collaboration indicators - See who’s currently editing which elements
  • No conflicts - System prevents multiple people from editing the same element simultaneously

Enhanced Anchoring

Anchoring now works more intuitively:

  • Persistent positioning - Stay anchored until you explicitly unanchor
  • No accidental movement - Your view stays exactly where you want it
  • Simple unanchoring - Click on the canvas to release

Intuitive Element Movement

With design mode removed, moving elements is now straightforward:

  • Drag and drop - Most elements can be grabbed and moved directly
  • Title bar interaction - Interactive elements (browsers, videos) use their title bar for movement
  • Content remains clickable - Click content to interact, click title bar to move

Quick Actions on Hover

Element controls have been streamlined for easier access:

  • Action bar on hover - Actions like play/pause, join stage, or manage queue for stages have been moved from individual buttons within elements to a convenient action bar that appears when you hover
  • Cleaner interface - Elements now have less visual clutter while keeping all controls easily accessible

🔄 Changes

Zone Element Removed

We’ve removed the Zone element as it didn’t add significant value to workflows:

  • Replaced by canvas backgrounds - The ability to add images to the entire canvas now serves the original purpose of zones for visual organization
  • Future grouping features - We’re planning to introduce new elements for deeper element grouping and organization in upcoming releases

🐛 Bug Fixes

  • Fixed user states and center stage behavior in voice-activated mode
  • Resolved profile picture upload and propagation across components
  • Fixed tab switching to preserve uploaded photos in avatar settings
  • Improved avatar settings UI and save button styling
  • Resolved element selection in collaborative editing
  • QoL improvements
