Which kind of room do you want?

In Glint, you build floors, walls and doors, then furnish the room with illustrated stickers. Your avatar walks through it. A sofa, a lamp and a sleeping cat can mark the corner where your group meets each week.[4]

Here uses a canvas of objects and video bubbles. Both give friends things to arrange and do together. Choose the room style you enjoy; the shared features alone are little reason to move.[1][4]

If you miss the old Here, look at the revived Here first. If decorating is part of the evening, try Glint's room builder and sticker album. Explore before moving your whole group.[1][4]

What happened when we tried Here without an account?

We tried Here's public demo, added a pizza sticker and sent a local chat message. It is a solo demo, so we could inspect the canvas interaction. We did not use it to judge calls, shared playback or another person's view.[1]

The actual Here app brought us to account creation with Google. We stopped there. Here's FAQ lists a Google account as the first thing you need. Its feature list mentions knocking and guests as room roles. We could not confirm whether an invited guest can join a live room without an account.[2][1]

Glint's guest trial gave us an avatar and room tools without an account. The screenshots below show what we could inspect before inviting friends.[3]

What does Glint do differently?

Glint puts the room you build beside a canvas for notes, pictures, documents, files and folders. Keep the evening's plan near a YouTube video. In our guest visit, the Board tools sat alongside Decorate.[3][6][5]

Glint also has friends, online presence, DMs and events with RSVP and reminders. Polls, a shared timer, a photo booth and face effects give a group small things to do together. Here lists its own versions of every one of these, so the difference is how they fit around a room you build.[8][1]

Build around something your friends already do: a weekly YouTube catch up, drawing or a quiet study session. Give it a place and see whether you want to return.

When should you stay with here.fm?

Stay with Here if your friends want its canvas and video bubbles. Twitch viewing and the Android beta are reasons to try it. Glint's watch feature is for YouTube; it does not replace Here's Twitch viewing.[1][5]

Here is back. Its site calls the revival experimental and says original accounts and rooms did not transfer. We cannot promise the future of either service. Choose a room your friends enjoy today, and keep copies of material you cannot replace.[1]

How do you bring a Here group to Glint?

  1. Try the room style

Open the guest trial and explore Decorate. Pick a corner you would actually want to spend an evening in.

  2. Rebuild one familiar corner

Arrange a room and a few illustrated stickers. Bring pictures and notes you have permission to use. Glint has no importer for Here rooms.

  3. Invite a small group first

Share your Glint room link for one hangout. Keep the Here room available while everyone decides where they prefer to meet.

Glint has no importer. Bring your own material and rebuild the room. More context: What happened to Here and where to hang out now. Guest invitations and room tools are described in our Glint sources.
